CAPM Qualifications

CAPM Eligibility Criteria

Many recent college graduates do not yet have the work experience to apply for PMP certification.  Regardless of the stage of your career, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) demonstrates your credibility to work on projects and to work effectively with project teams.  Employers value the CAPM certification and recognize that you have demonstrated project management knowledge in key areas for successful project execution.

CAPM Certification is a general credential for project management practitioners issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI®).  We have summarized the CAPM qualifications below, but be sure to check PMI’s website for any recent updates.

To apply for the CAPM Certification Exam:

With a high school diploma, associate’s degree, or equivalent, you need to have a minimum of 1,500 hours of project  experience.  Alternatively, you can demonstrate 23 hours of project management education when you sit for the exam.

Where are the CAPM exams conducted?

The CAPM exam is computer-based and is offered at Prometric Testing Centers worldwide.  You can check for the nearest location on Prometric’s website (click here).  In order to schedule the CAPM exam, you will need to have proper documentation from PMI indicating approval for you to take the exam.

What is the CAPM exam like?

The CAPM exam is composed of 150 questions that are completed within three (3) hours.  CAPM certification must be renewed every five (5) years by retaking the exam.  You can access four simulated practice tests for up to 60 days at a very affordable price to see if CAPM is right for you.

Normally CAPM candidates gain industrial experience in leading and directing projects and will move to obtain their PMP® Certification.  Learn more about PMP eligibility requirements.

Team Culture and Hybrid NPD Processes

Culture is one of those words that we all know what it means, yet we struggle to identify and name it.  Team and organizational cultures are best characterized from those within the group.  They might describe the culture as open and risk-tolerant or as hierarchical and lacking trust.  New product development (NPD) is a systematic… Read More >

Why Product Development is Like a Bank Loan

Loans among friends can quickly impact their friendship in a negative way.  I have learned that loaning a book to a friend really means giving them the book.  Not intentionally, people lose or damage the items they have borrowed so they cannot return them.  (Or are embarrassed to admit it.) My dad was a CPA,… Read More >

The Culture of NPD Processes

We all know that culture influences business outcomes more than any other variable.  Great strategies must be translated into effective business plans and implemented at the operational level.  Yet, if there is a breakdown in communication as a result of cultural conflict, a great business strategy can fail mightily.
